Things to Do in Alghero

THINGS TO DO AROUND ALGHERO

Three experiences we recommend

There is much more to Alghero than beautiful beaches. These are three places we recommend during your stay — from an evening in the historic centre to one of Sardinia’s most spectacular natural attractions and a day exploring another side of the island.

Beyond the beach

Discover a little more

You do not need a long sightseeing list to enjoy this part of Sardinia. Spend an evening wandering through Alghero, experience the dramatic coast of Capo Caccia and, if you feel like exploring further, discover the streets and everyday atmosphere of Sassari.

Historic streets of Alghero Old Town
OUR EVENING FAVOURITE

Alghero Old Town

A short walk from Oliveto

Our favourite way to spend an evening in Alghero.

Wander through the narrow streets of the historic centre, walk along the old sea walls and stop for dinner, gelato or a drink while enjoying the atmosphere of the city.

It is one of the best things about staying at Oliveto — you can enjoy the old town without needing the car.

Why we like itHistoric streets · Seafront walls · Restaurants · Evening atmosphere

Go in the late afternoon, stay for sunset and enjoy the old town as the evening begins.

Capo Caccia cliffs and Neptune’s Grotto near Alghero
THE MUST-SEE EXPERIENCE

Neptune’s Grotto

Capo Caccia · ~30 min by car

One of the most spectacular places around Alghero.

Hidden beneath the dramatic cliffs of Capo Caccia, Neptune’s Grotto is an experience we definitely recommend during your stay.

The combination of the cliffs, sea and cave makes this one of the most memorable excursions around Alghero.

Sassari

Easy day trip from Alghero

If you want to see another side of Sardinia, spend a few hours in Sassari.

Away from the beach resorts, Sassari offers a different atmosphere: historic streets, cafés, shops and everyday Sardinian city life.

Start around Piazza d’Italia, wander into the historic centre and visit the Cathedral of San Nicola. Stop for coffee or lunch and simply enjoy seeing a different side of northern Sardinia.

Good to knowWe recommend Sassari as a relaxed half-day or day trip rather than a traditional tourist attraction.
